Somewhere along the way, weekends stopped feeling restful.
They became the two days where everything had to happen. The errands, the catch-ups, the cleaning, the plans, the replying to messages, the “quick” jobs that somehow take half the day. I’m definitely guilty of trying to squeeze too much in, then wondering why Monday arrives and I feel like I need another weekend to recover from the weekend.
So this time, we did things differently.
We booked a stay at Melfort Pier and Harbour Resort, tucked away on the tranquil shores of Loch Melfort, near Oban, and it was exactly the kind of reset we didn’t realise we needed.
We stayed in The Anchorage Suite, a cosy two-bedroom lodge with everything we needed for a peaceful escape. It had that lovely balance of comfort and calm, the kind of place where you instantly feel yourself slowing down. The interiors were warm and welcoming, the amenities made the stay easy, and the views were the real scene-stealer.
Because honestly, waking up beside the water hits differently.

There’s something very special about this part of Scotland’s west coast. The resort is clustered around a private harbour, with access to two private beaches and a pier, so you’re never far from the sea air. One minute you’re wrapped up by the fire, the next you’re outside watching the light shift across the loch.
A cosy lodge, a warm fire, a sauna, and those unreal views. It was giving “I live here now”, which is always dangerous on a weekend away.
What I loved most was how easy it felt to do very little. We didn’t rush. We didn’t pack the days full. We just enjoyed being there. Coffee with a view, slow walks by the water, quiet moments, and that feeling of being completely away from the noise.

That said, if you do want to explore, Melfort Pier and Harbour Resort is a brilliant base.
Oban is close by, known as the seafood capital of Scotland and the Gateway to the Isles. The surrounding area is full of places to visit, from gardens and castles to distilleries, islands, boat trips, and scenic walks. You can go sea kayaking, wildlife watching, fishing from the pier, or head out for a proper hill walk if you’re feeling energetic.
There are also plenty of lovely food stops nearby, from relaxed cafés and dog-friendly pubs to local seafood spots and places serving fresh Scottish produce. For anyone who likes food, nature, and a good view with their meal, this part of Argyll is a dream.
But the real magic of the stay was the feeling of space.
Space to breathe.
Space to switch off.
Space to remember that a weekend doesn’t need to be packed to be worthwhile.
Whether you’re planning a quiet escape, a celebration, a romantic break, or just need somewhere beautiful to pause for a few days, Melfort Pier and Harbour Resort is absolutely worth adding to your Scotland list.
It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, take a breath, and just be.
And honestly, we all need a bit more of that.
